Safety Advice

Protect yourself when buying or selling cars in Nigeria. Read these tips carefully.

Buyer Safety Tips

  • Always inspect the vehicle in person before making any payment
  • Verify ownership documents — proof of purchase, vehicle licence, customs papers
  • Check the VIN/chassis number against official government records
  • Confirm customs clearance papers for foreign used vehicles
  • Never send a deposit to a seller you have not met in person
  • Be suspicious of prices that are too good to be true
  • Avoid sellers who refuse phone calls or inspections
  • Use our official enquiry form — do not share personal bank details in messages
  • Meet in a public place for initial discussions
  • Consider paying a mechanic to inspect the car before purchase
  • Report suspicious adverts using the 'Report this advert' button

Red Flags to Watch Out For

  • Seller asks for full payment before you see the car
  • No phone number or only WhatsApp communication
  • Car is priced far below market value with no explanation
  • Seller claims to be abroad or cannot meet in person
  • Pressure to buy quickly ('many people are interested')
  • Photos look stock or identical to images on other sites
  • VIN/chassis number does not match the vehicle documents
