Selling Tips

How to price your car, write a great description, and sell faster and safely in Nigeria.

Photos That Sell

  • Take photos in good daylight — avoid dark garages or harsh direct sunlight
  • Clean the car thoroughly inside and out before taking photos
  • Photograph all four sides, front, rear, interior, dashboard, boot, and engine bay
  • Include clear shots of any existing damage so buyers are not surprised
  • Use at least 5 photos — listings with more photos get significantly more enquiries
  • Avoid stock photos or images downloaded from the internet

Writing a Great Description

  • Write an honest, accurate description of the car's condition
  • State the actual mileage — buyers will verify in person
  • Mention any recent repairs, service work, or new parts
  • Disclose known faults upfront — it builds trust and saves time on both sides
  • Include the full vehicle history: one owner, accident-free, service history available
  • Specify what is included: spare tyre, tools, original manuals

Pricing Your Car

  • Research current market prices for your exact make, model, year, and condition
  • Price realistically — overpriced listings attract no serious enquiries
  • Factor in your car's true condition, mileage, and location when pricing
  • Decide your lowest acceptable price before negotiating so you are not pressured
  • Consider marking the price as Negotiable if you have flexibility

Handling Enquiries Safely

  • Respond to enquiries promptly — buyers lose interest quickly
  • Keep initial communication within the Folex platform or verified phone/WhatsApp
  • Be cautious of buyers who want to pay remotely without inspecting the car
  • Arrange inspections in a safe, public location or at a trusted mechanic
  • Never share personal bank or financial details in listing messages
  • Meet serious buyers with a fully charged phone and ideally with someone you trust

Managing Your Listing

  • Mark your listing as Sold as soon as the car is sold to avoid wasted enquiries
  • Keep your vehicle documents accessible for admin checks and buyer verification
  • Respond to admin requests for document verification — it helps your listing get approved faster
  • Renew your listing before it expires so serious buyers can still find it
  • Upgrade to a higher advert plan for more visibility and faster sales

Watch Out for Buyer Scams

  • Buyer offers to pay by cheque, bank transfer without inspection, or unusual payment methods
  • Buyer claims to be abroad and wants to arrange shipping or a third-party agent
  • Buyer agrees to your price immediately without negotiating — then asks you to return a partial amount
  • Buyer sends a payment screenshot before meeting — verify with your bank, do not trust screenshots
  • Buyer pressures you to reduce the price significantly before they have seen the car
